KCQ News: Pope Leo's Lung Cancer Diagnosis, Bay City Bridge Tolls and Kroger Layoffs

The Vatican says the surgery was completed successfully and that more information about his condition will be released soon.

A federal judge has ordered the White House to continue allowing journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico to access the building while a lawsuit against the Trump administration moves forward. Judge Timothy Kelly granted the news organizations a 14-day reprieve on September 24. The journalists had been barred from entering White House grounds six days earlier after President Trump accused the outlets of repeatedly reporting what he called fake news.

Here in Mid-Michigan, drivers could soon pay more to cross the Liberty and Independence bridges in Bay City. Bay City Bridge Partners plans to increase tolls starting January 1. Under the proposed rates, cars and pickup trucks would pay $2.50 with a B.C. Pass transponder or $7.50 without one. Bay City residents with a valid B.C. Pass would continue to cross for free in eligible vehicles.

The toll proposal comes amid questions from local officials about whether Bay City Bridge Partners is meeting its obligations under a 75-year agreement with the city.

Meanwhile, Kroger plans to lay off 3,000 corporate employees over the next three years as the grocery giant expands its use of artificial intelligence to streamline operations. The Cincinnati-based company has approximately 409,000 employees and more than 2,700 stores operating under various brands, making it the nation's largest stand-alone supermarket chain.
