Friday Night Live Canceled Due to Hazardous Air Quality

If you were planning to head downtown tonight for Friday Night Live or the 250th American Celebration, you'll need to make other plans.

After closely monitoring air quality conditions and consulting the latest forecasts, Positive Results Downtown Saginaw has announced that tonight's event has been canceled because of hazardous smoke from the ongoing Canadian wildfires.

Organizers say the decision wasn't made lightly, but protecting the health and safety of attendees, volunteers, performers, vendors, sponsors, and the community had to come first.

Wildfire smoke continues to blanket much of Michigan, creating unhealthy air quality conditions that are expected to persist through this evening. Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activities, especially for children, older adults, and anyone with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

While it's disappointing to lose one of the summer's signature downtown events, organizers say they appreciate everyone's understanding and support during these unusual conditions.

The good news? Friday Night Live is expected to return next week with the "Fiesta on the River" celebration, bringing live music, entertainment, and plenty of summer fun back to downtown Saginaw, weather and air quality permitting.

If you were planning to spend the evening outside, this may be the perfect opportunity to stay indoors, catch a movie, enjoy dinner with friends, or simply wait for cleaner air to return.

Stay safe, Mid-Michigan, and here's hoping for clearer skies soon.
