Trump, Netanyahu Meet as Michigan Sees Presidential Visit, Gordie Howe Bridge Opening and ICE Protests
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with President Donald Trump today, marking their first meeting since the two leaders launched a joint war against Iran.
The meeting comes as both leaders face growing political pressure at home. Netanyahu is up for re-election, while Trump faces pressure to bring the war to an end amid concerns about its economic impact ahead of the midterm elections.
Trump Visits Michigan
During a visit to a General Motors facility in Milford, President Trump argued that his economic policies have helped revive the American auto industry and manufacturing.
The visit comes as some businesses continue to raise concerns about the impact of tariffs imposed on Canada and other U.S. trading partners. It marked Trump's third trip to Michigan during his second term.
Gordie Howe Bridge Opens
Trump's Michigan visit also coincides with ongoing tensions between his administration and Canada that have affected the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor.
After nearly 25 years of planning, the bridge opened to traffic Monday, marking a major milestone for one of the busiest trade corridors between the United States and Canada.
