The Tailgate Food Power Rankings Are In

Football season is just around the corner, which means it's time to dust off the grill, find the folding chairs and start arguing about who makes the best tailgate food.

Over at Ranker, people have been voting on their favorite foods for a football tailgate, and the list is filled with the classics.

Right now, hamburgers are sitting at the top, followed by chicken wings, hot dogs, sliders, brisket, tortilla chips, salsa, sandwiches, short ribs and guacamole.

The rest of the Top 20 includes plenty of tailgate favorites:

  • Chili dogs

  • Chocolate brownies

  • Meatballs

  • Pigs in blankets

  • Corn

  • Seven-layer dip

  • Fried onions

  • Jalapeno poppers

  • Baked potato skins

  • Potato salad

Of course, not every food seems to have been made for tailgating.

Among the foods receiving fewer votes are stuffed mushrooms, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, trail mix, beans, oatmeal raisin cookies, hummus and whoopie pies.

And let's be honest, some of those are probably better suited for the office break room than the parking lot outside the stadium.

The beauty of tailgating is that there really aren't many rules. If it can be grilled, fried, covered in cheese or served with a dipping sauce, somebody is probably willing to put it on a folding table next to a cooler.
