Mid-Michigan Headlines: Raising Cane's Arrives, Health Officials Track Growing Outbreak

There are several stories making headlines across Mid-Michigan and beyond today.

The board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has reportedly voted to add President Donald Trump's name to the building beneath the main signage. According to people familiar with the proceedings, the move comes despite a recent federal judge's order, setting up another legal battle over changes at the iconic Washington, D.C. venue.

In Michigan, health officials say the statewide cyclospora outbreak continues to grow. Just one week after announcing that lettuce was once again considered safe to eat, the number of reported cases has climbed to nearly 14,000. That's a dramatic increase compared to a typical year, when Michigan usually records around 50 cases of the parasitic illness.

There's good news for chicken finger fans in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Raising Cane's is officially opening its first Saginaw location on Bay Road on September 8. The popular restaurant chain says it's currently hiring ahead of the grand opening.

Golf fans will notice a change on the LPGA schedule in 2027. For the first time in tournament history, the Dow Championship in Midland will move from its traditional summer dates to the fall. The event is now scheduled for September 27 through October 3 at Midland Country Club.

Sports

The Detroit Tigers blanked the Cleveland Guardians 3-0 while accomplishing something rarely seen in baseball, they didn't record a single strikeout at the plate. Detroit opens a series against the Chicago White Sox tonight.

In preseason NFL action, the Detroit Lions came up just short, falling to the Cincinnati Bengals 16-14.

Meanwhile, the Great Lakes Loons picked up a home win over South Bend and will be back in action again tonight.
